Saitama City, Japan

A bit of an update for you for the end of the year. I haven’t been good about making status updates here on the site, but progress is definitely being made. I’ve written a lot, but have also tossed out a fair amount, which is to be expected in the writing process, but which is always frustrating. Better to focus on quality and ensure a good final product than to hold onto text I know isn’t up to snuff.

I’ve been getting bogged down. As much as I sincerely enjoy writing a lot of the time, it’s also just really hard, especially when writing something on the scale of a book.

Getting mired in a project is normal enough with any creative endeavor, and in my experience trick to getting un-stuck often lies in variety. Gotta mix it up, gotta keep it fresh, gotta have fun.

For a long time, there have been a number of small writing/publishing projects I’ve wanted to do, pieces I’ve wanted to put out as zines, which is what I’ve decided to do in 2025. This will help keep things fresh, and it will also help me figure out some things directly related to the travel book project.

You can read more about the zines at https://somewherein.jp/zines, but here’s the good news—if you’ve already backed the travel book project (and many thanks to all of you who have), I’ll be putting up digital versions of the zines on the Gumroad page where the travel book files will appear once complete.

The first zine will be on the topic of intentionally getting lost in Tokyo, how to do it well, and the benefits of getting lost on purpose no matter where you happen to be.

If you haven’t backed the travel book yet, consider the inclusion of next year’s zines an extra incentive to do so.

Finally, this is your last chance to buy in and get the book, audiobook, and zines for the current minimum price of USD $5. From January 1, the price will be increasing to a minimum buy-in of USD $10.

That’s it for me for now. Thanks to everyone for your support, it really means a lot to me. And with or without a purchase, don’t forget you can help me make this project a full success by sharing it with others in your network.
