Project Updates
Check below for the most recent updates on my writing projects.
Current writing project: The Japan Travel Book (not the title)
An Update for August 2025
First of all, and especially for you wonderful people who have already backed the project: YES, THE PROJECT IS STILL LIVE. There will be a Japan travel book, and I’m going to make it as good as I possibly can. Which is part of what’s difficult about it. Obviously, it’s taking longer than I originally intended. After writing tens of thousands of words on the project, I realized a couple things about what I had written so far. Still not clear when I’ll actually finish it, but it’s now going in a better direction than it was, and that’s good for everyone concerned. If you haven’t already supported the project, please consider buying in for as little as USD $10. You can do that on the homepage. The more people who support the project, the more time I can afford to put into it and the sooner it’ll be finished.
2024 End-of-Year Update
A bit of an update for you for the end of the year. I haven’t been good about making status updates here on the site, but progress is definitely being made. I’ve written a lot, but have also tossed out a fair amount, which is to be expected in the writing process, but which is always frustrating. Better to focus on quality and ensure a good final product than to hold onto text I know isn’t up to snuff.
An Update!
I haven’t been updating this, but the project is absolutely still live. I’ve also decided to post some thoughts periodically in the form of travel-related articles on the Somewhere in Japan Substack, which I’ll also be updating today. I want to be honest about the project, though. It’s absolutely still on, and I am still compiling notes and writing text. It’s been hard, though. The last few months have seen a sharp worsening of my depression. These things tend to be cyclical, however, and I’m coming out of it bit by bit. It’s hard, though. If you’re seeing this, know that I appreciate your being here. And if you want to do a little something to help bring this project to completion, there are two things that make a big difference. More updates soon, and thank you for reading. Your support makes all the difference.
2024-08-20 TUE
Hit my target of 2,000 words for the day, after a few days of difficulty and being busy with other things. Currently over 6,000 words total, and I adjusted the target length from 50,000 words to 60,000 words, keeping in mind that I’ll be editing down the length at the end. Also glad to be getting more comfortable working with Scrivener. It’s very good software, there’s just a lot to learn about how to use it well.
